Opportunities to Serve – January 2024
Rise Against Hunger
We are partnering with our CCoM (Parkwood, Christus Victor, and All Saints) to raise a total of $6,400 between our three churches, which leaves an average of about $2,133 per church. This will pay for about 15,000 meals that will go out across the world to schools, orphanages, and communities that need them. We learn where our meals go later on, after we’ve packed the meals. If everyone gave $50 each, we would easily reach our goal! Please consider donating and signing up for the event by clicking the link:

We are collecting eggs for Urban Ministries of Durham. October 15th is Egg Collection Sunday. You may drop off eggs at the church prior to the worship service on Sunday or bring them in as late as Monday morning.

Opportunties to Serve our Neighbors
Fighting Hunger with Rise Against Hunger
Our goal is to raise $1500 for Rise Against Hunger for each of our CCoM churches (total is about $4,500 for 10,000 meals and rental fee for gym). If you would like to give towards Rise Against Hunger, you may write your check to “Parkwood UMC” and put “Rise Against Hunger” in the memo line. If 30 people gave $50, we could raise $1,500 for Rise. Please consider giving today and help us reach our goal!

We are scheduled to make sandwiches on Wednesday Oct. 11 and 19. If you can help please let Jan Schwarze know. We will carpool from the church at 9 am and return by 11 am.

Opportunities to Serve Our Neighbors
Urban Ministries of Durham
We are now collecting canned meat and fruit for Urban Ministries of Durham. Thank you for helping our neighbors through your giving to the food pantry at Urban Ministries.
On Wednesday, Aug. 17 we will be going down to make sandwiches for bag lunches. We’ll carpool at 9 am from the church, work from 9:30-10:30 and be back by 11 am.

The 48th Annual Durham CROP Hunger Walk is scheduled for April 10, 2022 at Duke University. Join the Parkwood United Methodist Walking team and raise money to help fight poverty and hunger both locally and around the world.

Parkwood United Methodist Church is sponsoring a fundraiser/yard sale for Parktown Food Hub on Friday, May 13 from 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM and Saturday, May 14 from 8AM to 5 PM . The rain dates are Friday May 20 and Saturday May 21, same times.
