New Church Photo Directory
The new directory is coming! As has been announced during Worship several times, we are working on producing a new photo directory. Our target date for distribution is October 12 so we need to get to work quickly.
There will be photo sessions each Sunday from August 17 through September 14 and we are hoping everyone will have their family photos added to our directory. Sign-up sheets for sittings will be posted on August 3; please sign up early so that you can have your ideal time slot selected.
Is a Sunday afternoon not convenient for you? Are these particular Sundays not convenient? Please contact one of our photographers to arrange for an alternate time. The photographers will be Ron Byrd, Laura Denny, and Linnie Skidmore. We will provide more information at the time of your sitting about how to purchase photos and what costs will be involved. Also if you have photos taken at several of our events or during our activities over the past year or so, feel free to send them to Margaret Eiland or Bob Newlin so that they can be added to our photo directory.

Listen: Praying in a Noisy World
There will be two opportunities to participate in our Lenten study, Listen: Praying in a Noisy World.
- Sunday morning sessions will be offered beginning March 9th at 9:30 am.
- Wednesday evening sessions will begin March 12th at 6:30 pm.
- If you’re gathering with us on Wednesday evenings, you will be invited to break bread with us as we gather. For the first meeting we will be doing BYOF (Bring Your Own Food), but from there we’ll discuss some other options for the following meetings.
Publisher’s Description:
We live in a world of noise. Everywhere we go, we hear sounds that compete for our minds and hearts. Listening to God requires a deliberate choice to shut out the chaos around us and focus our thoughts.
Listen, by Rueben P. Job, is a 40-day experience created to offer help to those new to prayer, those with a daily prayer routine, and those whose lives seem too busy to pray. With a focus on listening prayer and prayer as a two-way conversation, the experience will assist individuals and groups in building and deepening a personal prayer practice and spiritual discernment.
As we learn to listen, we find a new depth and fulfillment in our relationship with God and a new experience of God as guide and companion in our lives. The daily prayer pattern includes an invitation, silence, Bible reading, a story, guided time for reflecting and listening, and practical help for developing six specific prayer practices.

Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam
There will be two opportunities to attend our new Advent study, Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam. The first, an evening study, begins on Tuesday, November 26th at 7pm. It will meet for four sessions (two chapters will be covered during the last session) and will conclude on Tuesday, December 17th. The second opportunity will be five sessions and take place each Sunday morning during Sunday school from December 1st until December 29th.
“Christmas or confusion, Bethlehem or bedlam . . . Which will you choose this year? The truth is, we don’t have to choose, because Christmas always happens right in the midst of our confusion. God breaks into our confusion and is made known in Jesus Christ. Christmas and confusion–weren’t they intimately related at the first Christmas when Jesus was born? Sometimes we forget that. But, that’s what this study is about–how Christ breaks into our chaos and confusion and brings Christmas–how Bethlehem always happens in the midst of bedlam. This thematic Advent study for 2013 has five sessions–one for each Sunday of Advent and one for Christmas.
Each chapter includes questions for reflection and discussion, a brief prayer, a focus for the week, and six daily Bible readings for personal devotional time during the week.”

“Why?” – Making Sense of God’s Will
“When the ground shakes, and a poor nation’s economy is destroyed; when the waters rise, washing away a community’s hopes and dreams; when a child suffers neglect and abuse; when violence tears apart nations; where is God? If God is all powerful, and if each one of us is a beloved child of God, then how can God allow tragedy and suffering to infest his creation? When we lift our prayers to God, and no answer seems to come; when we earnestly seek to know the will of God for our lives, yet can’t seem to discern it; when God seems far away; where is God? If God counts the hairs on our head, and knows every sparrow that falls, why is finding and understanding God’s will so difficult at times? In Why? Making Sense of God’s Will best-selling author Adam Hamilton brings fresh insight to the age-old question of how to understand the will of God. Rejecting simplistic answers and unexamined assumptions, Hamilton addresses how we can comprehend God’s plan for the world and ourselves.
Chapters include:
- Why Do the Innocent Suffer?
- Why Do My Prayers Go Unanswered?
- Why Can’t I See God’s Will for My Life?
- Why God’s Love Prevails.
This study is being offered as a 4 week Tuesday evening study beginning June 18th at 6:30 pm.
You may also participate in this study during the Sunday School hour beginning Sunday, June 23rd at 9:30 am.

Let’s All Get Back to Sunday School!
Starting on April 7th, all of our classes will be combined into one big group. We’ll gather in the fellowship hall to participate in the study, “The Way,” a six-week study by Adam Hamilton, and will begin promptly at 9:30 am, with refreshments served beforehand.
Together we will watch some wonderful videos of the Holy Lands as Adam Hamilton retraces the steps Jesus took in his ministry and then have break out groups to discuss some questions that pertain to the book, “The Way,” that we’ll all be reading. This is an all age’s event, too, as we have breakout sessions for children and youth, as well.
